Voice Assist allows clinicians to control their systems hands-free, improving efficiency and providing essential support during critical procedures.
Overview
Voice Assist voice command feature that enables clinicians to control their systems hands-free during sterile or clean procedures. The Voice Assist is easily activated with a simple voice command, “Activate Voice,” allowing clinicians to control many critical functions hands-free during an exam.
The feature helps reduce healthcare provider costs and streamlines workflow by eliminating the need for an assistant to be in the room to help complete an exam or procedure. Additionally, the hands-free operation allows the proceduralist to stay fully focused on the patient, contributing to a safer, more sterile environment.
Role & Contributions
Role: Lead Visual Designer / Interaction Designer
Contribution: Provided overall direction and vision for visual design. Worked on the interaction pattern for the voice assist.
Voice Assist Workflow
The focus was on making voice assist easy and intuitive to use, and on preventing any unwanted activation of the feature. POC ultrasounds are generally used in a loud ER environment; accidental activation or activation of wrong commands can cause dangerous and life-threatening outcomes for the patient.
Design Development
After an ideal workflow was defined, I started to explore different visual patterns, interactions, motions for each step of the workflow. The goal was to clearly communicate status of each step, such as when the feature is off, activated, time remaining to give command, and when command is received.
